Camping in Burrum Coast National Park

Camping is permitted only in the Woodgate and Kinkuna sections of the park. Both provide close access to the water and beach activities.

Camping permits are required and fees apply. Book well in advance for school holidays and long weekends.

Camping area features: Camping is permitted behind fragile foredunes, just a short walk to the water and beach.

Location: Behind the beach foredunes in the defined camping zone in Kinkuna section.

Access: The camping area can be reached by 4WD vehicle only. It is not recommended for low clearance trailers, caravans or buses. During wet conditions, access roads may be closed as they pass through low lying, swampy areas. Use only established access points across the dunes to reach the beach. Driving on sand requires some care to protect both you and the fragile sand environment.

Number of sites: 40 (not individually numbered).

Campsites are suitable for: Tent camping beside your car.

Campsite surfaces: Sand.

Facilities: There are no facilities at Kinkuna.

Open fires: Allowed (except when fire bans apply) but fuel stoves are recommended.

Generators: Permitted. Be considerate of other campers and keep noise to a minimum.

Essentials to bring: Food, drinking water, fuel, medical supplies, portable toilet, rubbish bags and insect repellent. Fuel stoves are recommended. If you choose to use a cooking fire, you must bring your own milled timber for use as firewood—it is an offence to collect firewood in the national park.

Camping tags are available from information shelters at the southern and northern road entrances to the camping area at Kinkuna. Record your booking number on your camping tag.

Mobile phone coverage: Variable depending on network provider— you may get reception along the beach.

Burrum Point camping area

Camping area features: The camping area is behind fragile foredunes, just a short walk to the water and beach. Boating, canoeing and fishing are popular activities on the Burrum River.

Location: At Burrum Point in the Woodgate section.

Access: The camping area can be reached from Childers or Bundaberg by high clearance 4WDs and trailers only. Caravans and buses are not recommended. It is advisable to check road conditions before entering. Wet weather access may be restricted due to local flooding. Driving on sand requires some care to protect both you and the fragile sand environment.

Number of sites: 13 numbered sites. Site number is allocated when booking.

Campsites are suitable for: Tent camping beside your car and off-road camper trailers.

Campsite surfaces: Sand.

Facilities: Water, cold showers and toilets. Please reduce your impact on this ecosystem by not using external showers and soap in the camping area; use the showers provided.

Open fires: Prohibited.

Generators: Not permitted.

Essentials to bring: Food, drinking water, fuel, medical supplies, fuel stove, rubbish containers, insect repellent and sunscreen. Read more about things to know before you go.
